This is a source of information about Japan and other related topics. Currently content is heavily focused on Japanese history and the martial arts, however I do plan to branch out into many other Japan-related (and some not so related) topics.

WTF is the Gottsupedia?
Good question! Gottsupedia stands for "gottsu-iiyan.ca Encyclopedia", but beyond that it's only distinguishing feature is that it's about Japan and related things, with a heavy focus on aikido. As far as policy, although I plan to have this open to contributors and keep info as objective as possible, this is still less an Encyclopedia and more an IANcyclopedia. What that means is that anything I want could end up here, regardless of the topic's relevance to Japan or Japanese history. It also means that this resource won't go status quo, especially where history is concerned. I hope that eventually everything in here will be looked at from different view points and ultimately have the readers decide what they believe. There are multiple sides to every story and I'd like to have as many of them as possible.
Anyway, I'm not really sure quite what the Gottsupedia's identity will be, but here's what I think it is at the moment:
What does "gottsu iiyan" (ごっついいやん） mean, anyway?
For those of you not familiar with Japanese and Osaka dialect, I am working on an explanation of this somewhat tricky topic. When I get it, my explaination will be here:
What's doing
As you can see by the list of top categories, so far this is mostly articles on Japanese history and martial arts, mainly aikido. Please check the Recent Changes link to the left for an idea of what's been done lately.
Currently expansion, correction and citation of existing articles is the focus of work, particularly on what I call the "anchor articles", such as Japan or History of Japan, to avoid this ending up a random, cluttered heap of fragmented info. That's not to say an article on Olympic water polo accidents won't be posted on a Kirin-induced midnight impulse, but I'm going to try to stay the course and plug the major holes and add pieces where they are most needed first.

Write an article
- Want to contribute but don't know where to start? Select a topic from one of the above lists and help improve or build on it. Or start a new article on a topic of interest to you. It doesn't have to be directly related to existing topics, but at least try and keep articles on real topics. Humor is good, but fiction is not unless it is clearly presented as such. If you want to write about Scuzzlebutt's forest-dwelling Japanese cousin, go ahead. Just please don't link it to serious categories.
Also, you can check out the Community Portal, which doesn't actually exist yet but may someday. To get started just create an account, authenticate your email address in the preferences link at the top of the page, and off you go!
