Now this is cool. Personally, I had always thought of the man as an artistic genius, so it's interesting to see his process, and how he sort of "fell" into the position of comic artist.

In my opinion, Talent will show itself in one way or another, whether it'd be through happy accident or through hard work.

Thanks for the comments, you guys.
And you're welcome.

It's nice to know that people are reading this.
Before I could read Japanese I was always looking for info in English on the Japanese stuff I liked, so I'm glad to be in a position to help deliver some.

This might be the information age, but the world isn't globalized and instantly multilingual yet.
(good thing, too, because if that happend there would be little need for translators! haha)

By the way, this interview will be posted in 6 parts, and parts 3 to 6 are all double the size of part 2.

I'll get part 3 up as soon as I can.

Thanks gottsu!!

Wow this is amazing, Urasawa's background has some simmilarities with mine.

As a kid I was good at drawing, everybody used to say it. Around age 13 I got into DBZ, that was probable the first anime I ever saw (apart from transformers). At that time I started to discover more anime, like Naruto, Hellsing, One Piece, Kenshin and many more. When Naruto got into fillers I read the manga. That lead to more manga.

At the time when dbz first aired I was interested in the drawings, so I copied them. But for about 2 years now I've been seriously studying anatomy. I chose economics over art school, cause I thought the art education was too wide over here in the Netherlands (painting, sculpture, art history, etc). Since I only was interested in the human figure and manga, it seemed pointless. So, I am now in my final year of my economics study.
