This just hit my RSS feed and for a second I thought I'd subscribed to The Onion or something instead of ICv2.

And Nolan

The city of Batman, in southeastern Turkey, is suing Warner Brothers and Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan over the use of the city’s name. The mayor of the city, Huseyin Kalkin, told the Hurriyet Daily News that the suit was suggested by foreign journalists as a way out of the city’s financial troubles. Although the city apparently pre-dates the character, asserting rights at this late stage is a little tardy. The paper quotes the head of the Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Commission of the Istanbul Bar as noting that the period for objecting to the registration of the Batman trademark is now past, all over the world.

I hope Turkey has good paramedics and they have the paddles charged up, because when those "foreign journalists" hear the news they'll end up laughing so hard they’ll need to be resuscitated.

I suppose if this world recession gets really bad, every place named Springfield and South Park will sue The Simpson's and South Park respectively, too?
Japan always loves a good fad. Maybe they'll get in on the act and we'll have the Town of Obama suing President Obama when suckers stop buying their shitty rip-off Obama goods.

(Actually, maybe Obama should sue them first!)

To ensure this whole thing doesn't get out of hand and spark a worldwide storm of ass-brained litigation, I suggest Warner Bros. and Nolan respond immediately by sending Bane over to Turkey to show them what it's like to be Batman sometimes and beat some sense into them.

Of course, this plan will only work if nearby Bane, Lebanon doesn't intervene and launch a lawsuit of its own.

If that happens, then Warner Bros. could maybe just scoop out a bucket of cash from Batman box office revenues, buy the damn place, and turn it into a mega studio for Batman 3.
That would solve their financial problems, right?

Actually, I think the mayor of Batman City just wants a little attention, and maybe a Stella Award.
