If you've been here in the last little while, you may have noticed a few things have been removed.
It seems that I failed to realize that digital breadcrumbs, however small, don't always lead back to the source and can sometimes go down paths you never expected them to. Also, things can easily get chopped up, mixed up and unintentionally put back together in ways that they were never intended.
I thought there was a healthy distance, but I've learned that objects in the rear view mirror really might be much closer than they appear. If you let real life and digital life get too close, before you know it, even with a total lack of malice on anyone's part, a second cousin thrice removed that lives on the other side of the world, could suddenly become your twin brother and sleeping on a bunk bed in your room.
Worse, people may come out with a third-hand impression that you implied that said cousin's hairline is receding, when your intention was only to comment about someone else speculation as to whether or not he hadn't just got his bangs trimmed.
Er, something like that...
I think you know what I mean.
What I'm trying to say is that while it's nice to be noticed, on the internet one little slick spot can send you slipping and sliding from your safe little spot on the river banks, right into the community info stream.
When I worked in animation I watched the community from a basement dungeon via closed circuit television. That's the way it should be.
This time I found myself sitting out on the porch of my little home in the 'burbs listening to the buzz off in the distance and not realizing how close it really was.
Anyway, warm your hands too close to the campfire and sometimes you get a hot marshmallow in the face with no graham crackers to make S'mores with. (That has actually happened to me).
The last thing I want is misunderstandings.
So, while I duck hot marshmallows, the fan part of me will re-pitch its tent somewhere else where topics are little further removed, and the professional side will go back into seclution where it belongs, leaving only my apologies to all concerned.
As far as this topic goes...
